I feel that I must start with the long disclaimer. Game of Thrones is a show that is one of the most watched series on TV, which is based off the massively successful books by George R. R. Martin. There is a lot of differences between the two, but they both can exist and both be enjoyed on their own, and together. I am not one who will ever tell a person that they aren’t a true fan unless they read the book, or if they are only a fan of the TV show. It doesn’t matter because you have the right to enjoy whatever you like, and it doesn’t make you less of a fan unless you know all of the folklore associated with the story.
I am reading the series but I find myself both in awe and slightly annoyed with the world and the pace that Martin has created. That’s why I find series on YouTube very helpful when doing my own research to understand their world better. It is interesting enough for me to want to keep going and dive deeper into this story but I don’t have the patients to read all of the works. Maybe someday, I will but for now that will take a backseat the to TV series for me which got me hooked on the story to begin with. Now that I have that out of the way, and I am confident that everyone who is any type of fan is welcomed, here are a few theories of who I think is actually going to win the game of thrones.
First, I will give you my theory on what I hope that will happen. My favorite character is Dany, and the reason that I watched the show in the first place was because or her, and her dragons. Even though she can be violent, I feel that she has a strong part of her that really wants to save people. She feels as though she is owed her birthright which is the Iron Throne. She has been hunted and abused her entire life and now she is fighting back, and even helping those who have also been harmed break their chains. Dany is a warrior and a politician even though she doesn’t want to be. She listens to her advisers and acts with passion and fire. Sometimes it’s the right thing to do, while other times she dances with madness.
I tend to agree with one of the most popular theories out there which is that of the three-headed dragon and the three riders. I believe the riders are Dany, Jon, and Tyrion. Dany and Jon are family even though at this point they don’t know this information. They both have much in common beyond blood, and I think Jon will help Dany see the greater threat of the White Walkers than taking over the seven kingdoms. I also think they will eventually fall in love. The last rider will be Tyrion, who is rumored to be Dany’s brother. While there isn’t a lot of theories to back this up, the greater point is the formation of the three houses of Stark, Lanister, and Targeryan who will battle together instead of against one another. After all, this tale of Fire and Ice is all about how war is a pointless and sadistic sport where no one wins. What would be better than the three houses who have been battling for power, join forces and fight the greater threat together. Maybe this story will have some peace after all. Even if it doesn’t, isn’t it better to go down fighting side by side with a focused goal for the greater good, instead of afraid and alone and dying for something that wasn’t your fight?
This theory would see Dany winning the Game of Thrones, with Jon and Tyrion by her side. That is until one of them dies. I believe that Jon will not survive because when he died and was brought back, he made it clear that he never wanted to come back again. The end of the story has been hinted that it will be a bitter sweet ordeal. That’s why I think that Dany and Jon will have their moment in the sun, before Jon is killed. By who? My thought is Cersei Lannister will be the one who personally kills Jon Snow. Cersei has nothing left after the death of her children. If the throne has been taken away and Dany is the Queen, what else does she actually have left except her madness? I see her somehow killing Jon, then quickly being killed by Jamie. After all, he is the King Slayer. Jamie will be so distraught that he will either kill himself, or he will take one for the team in a last ditch heroic effort for the threat they thought was over, but actually was not.
The other theory is my favorite. All men must die, so what happens if they all do and no one is left? I did not come up with this theory on my own because many of these have been discussed on YouTube. However, I have added to it my own thoughts. I think that this whole story is nothing more than a story, or even a past historical event in this universe. The vast libraries where Sam is now at and studying is literally the same thing in the opening credits of the show. Take a really good look at that place, then think about the opening credits. It is all the same! What if this whole thing is just a story or event in history that is being retold by Sam himself. What if he has been our narrator all along and he has been telling us this story as not only a tribute to those he lost, but as a warning of things that could come.
I think it would make a lot more sense that no one actually wins the Game of Thrones, because this story is set as a warning to not repeat history again. There is wonderful and rich stories but they all end in violence and heartbreak. Everyone will die, but from their deaths, legends and warnings are born. This would be poetry that even though all men must die, their stories don’t have to. Sam is there to tell us, and anyone who will listen to be careful of their history because it may not only repeat itself, but you can create monsters more terrible than has ever been imagined in the past. After all,the White Walkers were created in order to save the Children of the Forrest against men. While people were so busy fighting a war that killed thousands of innocent people, a whole other threat bigger than any of them was looming in the darkness. This is a cry for the universe to listen to the world and not to fight against it.
In the end, it is all theory. However, it is a lot of fun! I love trying to figure out what will happen because this is an amazing story. It is written so well that you feel pain when these characters die. You feel joy with their joy, and fear when they are faced with terrible situations. The world George. R. R. Martin created is breathtaking and complete. It is so alive that is has a pulse of it’s own. While the song has almost ended, it can be sung over and over again.
