Barnes and Noble Snacks

There is nothing that I love more than spending a day at the bookstore, especially Barnes and Noble. On any free day that I have, I like to spend it pouring over any awesome and fun books that I can put my hands on. I grab each book and magazine that I wanted to check out, and then go get a coffee and a snack at the cafe. Next, I would read and take my time to decide which book I wanted to take home with me! It would be an awesome day! I even ended up working at Barnes and Noble for a short time. The only reason I left was it just wasn’t enough to pay the bills. The job itself was great. That being said, I was able to try out many of the great foods that the cafe at Barnes and Noble has to offer. However, these snacks change while some staples remain the same. I tried out two of these snacks and decided to write a short review. I encourage you to go enjoy a day at the bookstore and try these out for yourself. Really enjoy your time there and feel what it is like to hold pages in your hand again.

Pink Lemonade Cake:

What an interesting take on a summer time snack.  I really wished that it would have worked! I used to love lemonade, but as I got older, it stopped loving me and it I would get a belly ache any time that I tried to drink that tasty summer time treat. My friend bought this cake so I was able to try a few bites and not have to worry about any waste or any sickness. This is a layered white cake between a sweet and sour layer of cream. While this is a very pretty cake, it sadly isn’t very tasty. In fact, there isn’t much taste at all. The cake itself is your run of the mill white or pound cake with little flavor. If there was any flavor put into the cake at all, I couldn’t tell you. The cream does have a taste, but it doesn’t mean it’s good. It is very sour with a hint of sweetness. There is nothing about this cake that would make me think it’s pink lemonade. Do I think it’s a good cake no matter what it’s called? Sadly, it’s not. Barnes and Noble, this was a nice attempt and a fun concept. It looks very pretty, but it falls flat. I give this a 1 out of 5 stars and I don’t recommend it.

Chocolate Cupcake:

If you have been a Barnes and Noble fan, then you know that cupcakes have been around for several years. However, they have been updated and improved with different ingredients since they first hit the shelves. I never liked the original cupcakes. They were dry and tasteless. (Sounds like the pink lemonade cake, so there is still hope!) I decided that I should go ahead and try out the cupcake again to see if it actually had improved like the lady told me. She was correct. The cake itself is soft and has a lot of flavor! The frosting is sweet, and has a bit of the bitterness of dark chocolate. The shavings are milk chocolate and also yummy. I know people have very different feelings about frosting, so it may be too much for some people. However, I feel like compared to cupcake shops, this isn’t a whole lot. I loved this cupcake and would get it again. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

What is your favorite Barnes and Noble treat? Do you still spend time in a bookstore? I think it’s good for everyone!

1990’s Foods you can Buy on Ebay!

Please be advised that none of the foods represented in this blog post should ever been consumed by any human being, at any point! This is all expired food! “1990’s Foods you can Buy on Ebay,” contains affiliate links. For more information, make sure that you check out the disclaimer on the promotions page.

Underdogs, I have been spending a lot of time in the hospital in the last two months. Sometimes, I entertain myself by searching  for some strange things that I can find on Ebay. Last week, I looked up items that were labeled haunted. If you missed that, please go check that blog post out!  This time, I decided to find something from my childhood. These are things that I honestly didn’t think I would find, but there are foods people are selling from the 1990’s. I had a vision of a Superman Hot Chocolate that I recall when I was little. This sent me down a rabbit hole and here are some real foods that you can purchase on Ebay right now that came from the 1990’s! Now, this should go without saying, but if you follow the link and decide to purchase, please don’t consume any of it! There is no way in the world that food is safe to eat at this point, so only get the item if you want to display it.

4 Vintage 1990’s Penguin Pepsi Cans:

Pepsi Penguin Can Collection: 1990’s

Let’s start with something simple and not dangerous at all. Here is an adorable collection of 4 Penguin Pepsi cans from the 1990’s. These are just cans, so no soda is involved at all. I sort of recall these being popular as a child, but there have been lots of fun characters in soda campaigns for the last several years. Either way, these are cute cans, and if you are someone who wants these to add to your collection, it’s only $9.99.

VINTAGE-RARE-Sealed-1990-ORBITZ-Pineapple-Banana-Cherry-Coconut-FULL-1014oz.jpg (300×400)

Orbitz: Pineapple Coconut Banana Cherry:

This is an actual unopened bottle of Orbitz. If you have never had this drink, you may want to consider yourself lucky. This is a clear liquid with fruit flavoring. However, it also includes these little gel fruit flavor gel bubbles are also included. This makes the whole thing seem like a lava lamp. I remember these well, and I recall that it was expensive, tasted gross, and it was very easy to choke on. This little ditty from the 1990’s is only $29.99. Judging by the photo provided, this drink has seen better days and you should never try it! If you are worried, there are 2 small dents in the cap, but otherwise, I think it looks as good as it can considering the age. I believe back in the day, these drinks were around $3.00 each.

Runtz Merry Mix:

Runtz Merry Mix

While I remember Runtz, I don’t recall seeing this at all. The seller lets us know that this vintage 1990’s treat was very rare. In fact, they have only seen this one! It was only made during one Christmas season, so this is pretty rare. This is an unopened package, but again, don’t ever eat these! I thought this was pretty cool since I’ve never seen them before and Runtz today don’t taste like they used to. Are they ever around anymore? I’m not even sure!

Corn Chex Cereal with Snoopy Bank:

Corn Chex Cereal 1990

This sealed, pre-owned Corn Chex Cereal has the really cool addition of a Snoopy Bank! This item is from the 1990’s, and is selling for $34.95. I did have these around as a child, but it didn’t leave a huge impact on me. Just like I did when I was a child, I picked this out based on the cool toy that is coming with the box!

Kool-Aid Island Twist Kicking Key Lime:

Kool Aid Island Kicking Key Lime

This was one of my favorite flavors growing up in the 1990’s. When you grow up poor, 29 cents is too much for a packaged drink like these when you could get the store brand for about a dime. So if we got to have Kool-Aid, it was a treat! Now, for only $34.99, you can get not one, but two sealed packages! These were found by the seller after cleaning out their Grandma’s kitchen, so this makes me feel way too old! I can’t say that I could keep from trying these if I bought them. That’s why I won’t!

There were a few items from Ebay that you can purchase right now that came from the 1990’s. While this took me down memory lane, it makes me worry what in the world we all used to put into our bodies. There were a lot of bright and colorful images that did most of the drive for what we wanted to eat. I’m sure that those of us who grew up during this time will pay for it later on in our health. It’s nice to look at some of the fun things, but it also gives me paranoia on what we all used to eat!

What’s a past snack item that you miss and wish that were still around today? Leave your comments down below.

Underdogs, one of my favorite places in the whole world, is Savannah, Georgia. I hope that I can retire there someday. In the meantime, I have to settle for a visit. However, if you ever get a chance to go to Savannah, make sure that you check out my favorite place to eat there which is called, Corleone’s Italian Restaurant. This little gem is just a bit off the beaten path. It’s not your typical tourist place to eat, but it is worth the adventure! Located on 44 MLK BLVD, this restaurant literally has some of the best food I have ever tried! I have never had to worry about reservations, but they do take them. Take a look at their website here and see about their hours and reservation options. https://corleones.com/

I first went to Corleone’s with my two best friends back in 2010. It was by accident that we happened upon this place. We had missed our bus to get to the airport and had awhile before the next one would come along. Since we had already eaten our lunch, we thought we would try getting something sweet. We walked for a bit and saw Corleone’s and thought we would try it out. Why not because it was such an excellent name! We had such a wonderful experience! The moment we walked through the door not only were we treated like locals, but also treated like family! We all tried the deserts and were hooked! The atmosphere was awesome! It was laid back, and it was like we were in someone’s house with mama cooking the family recipes in the kitchen. We had such a great experience that we came back for dinner! When I left Savannah, I was so sad because I had fallen in love with the city. I also knew this place would be a staple for me anytime I came to the city!

I was able to come back to Corleone’s this last month and bring another friend! The atmosphere was just as awesome as it was the first time I walked through the door! We went for lunch, which makes the prices a bit cheaper. While I have never complained about the prices here, it is nice when you are on a budget. I got the lasagna which was around $8.00. The food tasted just as good as I recalled. The noodles were soft and the cheese was plentiful. The sauces was so good that I wanted to pick up my plate and lick every last bit! I would have done it if that hadn’t been so rude! Truly, it’s hard to describe how good this food is, and how at home this entire staff makes you feel!

I know that people go to Savannah and want to try other famous locations for food. However, I have found that going just a tiny bit off the tourist area, you will find places that short wait times, cheaper prices, and much better food. I don’t feel like fighting to get into a restaurant during my relaxing vacation, and there are many places in Savannah that are like this in the city. I think it’s much better to do yourself a favor and seek out other places that aren’t the super famous restaurants. Corleone’s is truly one of the best places in the city to eat, so don’t miss out! PS: They have some great merch as well! I highly suggest that you try out Corleone’s the next time that you are in Savannah!

This post contains affiliate links for some awesome suggestions for my blogging posts! For more info, check out my disclaimer on the promotions page.

Underdogs, sometimes I get stuck in a rut! That’s when I take suggestions from my friends, family, and fans! I have been working very hard on this blog, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t overlook some fun things that people may want me to write about. So I am looking for your suggestions to see what you want to see from me during my Try it Tuesday posts. Let’s take a look at a few suggestions that I have been thinking about that you may want to see! It’s not limited to these, but here are a few ideas to get the suggestions flowing!

Coffee Taste Test:

As you guys know, I LOVE coffee. It’s life and I wish that I had some right now. Would you like to see any Starbucks taste tests? Comment below, or on my Facebook page to let me know what you would want me to try out. I put a firm no on anything that includes the food allergies that I have which include raspberries. I also really don’t like coconuts so I will pass on that. But would you like to see some featured products, famous new flavors, or my annoyance with the so called secret menu items? (I used to work at Starbucks, and there is no secret menu, just creations that you can try out.)

Vintage Recipes.

This may be a bit harder, but I love vintage cookbooks. I wish I had a few more, which is what a trip to Goodwill can help with. What if I find a strange and out there receive that was made years ago, and try them today. What do you think? Do you have a certain cookbook that you would suggest that I try to find?

Subscritpion Boxes:

These are all the new rage right now. I had a Birch Box subscription for about 6 months. It’s a fine service and does what it says it will. I just stopped getting it because I wanted to try out other things. What are your subscription box suggestions? By the way, I am starting my own Subscription Box service! Ask me for more details!

Kit Kat Taste Tests:

I am so JEALOUS of the amount of amazing and awesome flavors that Japan gets with all of their Kit Kat Flavors. I treated myself to a few two years ago, and I loved the experience! There are hundreds to try out, but they are not easy to get. While I can easily place an order, it takes a long time to get here, and there is a risk of having melted or destroyed product. I would try them out, for you and for science! What would be your flavor suggestions?

Those are just some thoughts! What are your suggestions! I am very excited to see what you guys would like to see me explore!

Chai Tea: 3 Ways

This post contains affiliate links for Chai Tea. For more information, visit the Disclaimer on the Promotions Page. This also includes the Little Mermaid cup!

Hello Underdogs! As many of you know, I love coffee but I also love teas! One of my favorite treats is drinking Chai Tea. Traditionally, this drink comes from several regions around the world including India and Africa. In the past decade, it has become more popular in Europe and the United States.  It can be purchased in a concentrated form, which is what you get from coffee shops, in tea bags, powders, or you can actually make it yourself. Most of the time Chai Tea is made from tea leaves, honey, cinnamon, cloves, water, and milk. Sometimes there is an extra amount of spice added which is either pepper or all spice. People use this tea in all sorts of drinks and even some cooking as well. I haven’t tried that yet, but I am sure one day I will try Chai Tea cookies! Here is a few suggestions to make some homemade Chai Tea options that is cheaper that a coffee shop, and can be good in both hot and cold weather. For these samples, I used the concentrate version of Chai Tea only.

1.Iced Caramel Chai Tea

This is my all time favorite way to drink Chai tea. Many people do the vanilla Chai, but Caramel is my favorite. It adds another layer of flavor that you just don’t get with vanilla. For this you need: Tazo Chai Tea Classic Latte concentrate, Caramel Syrup, milk, ice, and a cup. For this recipe, I suggest a skim or 1% milk choice. The reason for this is much higher than that, the taste is altered and you loose something in the higher milk content. If you can’t drink milk, soy works in this as well. Do not start off with ice in the cup. You want to leave room for your ice to be added later, otherwise you won’t get a proper mix. This calls for one part Chai tea, to one part milk. Mix those together well, then add the Caramel Syrup. This is to taste, but I would put at least one spoonful. Mix together before slowly adding your ice. You can top this off in several ways. If you are a fan of dirty Chai, add one shot of espresso. If you like cinnamon, add this to the top, or just drink as is! While this seems like a summer and spring drink, I enjoy it all year around!

2.Hot Chai Tea:

This is a very simple way to enjoy this tea. Again, the directions are one part Chai, and one part milk. Many people use the one part Chai, to 1/2 part milk, and half part water. I am not a fan of the half milk and half water approach, but other people enjoy this drink. If you go to places like Starbucks, this is mainly how they serve their Chai I find that using water  takes away from the taste of the tea. However, it is too much for others and they need it to be watered down a bit. This is a personal choice so I suggest trying it both ways to see what is your favorite. All you do is add both the Chai and the milk (or milk/water mix) to a sauce pan and simmer for a few minutes until it’s at a drinking temperature that you would enjoy. Pour into a cup and add your toppings of choice, or it is ready to drink as soon as it cool. You also have the options of adding in flavors after you have simmered the tea on the stove. You don’t want to add this prior to the stove or you will risk burning and a pretty awful flavor and smell.

3.Frozen Chai Latte:

Who doesn’t love a good blended drink, especially on warmer days? I actually like frozen drinks all year around!  Chai latte makes a great frozen drink and it is pretty simple to make. You will need the 1 part Chai concentrate, and your choice of one part water, or one part milk. This is where you decide if you want a plain, or a flavored frozen Chai Latte. For example, you can add a spoon full of a cinnamon and sugar mixture along with a splash of vanilla extract. Or, you can use coconut milk for a different flavor! After you decide if you want to add anything, this is when you add your ice cubes. This will depend on the size of drink you are making, and your blender, but you should have at least 1 1/2 cup of ice cubes for this drink. Blend together and serve!

Chai tea is a lot of fun since you can do so much with the flavor. You can have it mild, or make it a bit spicy depending on your taste. This is the perfect base for you to try all sorts of different ways to create a drink that will be your signature. This is worth purchasing the concentrate, because it is good for about a month. You are able to do a lot with what you are given, or you can make the base yourself! Try this out and post your ideas in the comment section!
