Trends that need to be left in 2017

Trends are all around, Underdogs, and they can be both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because it gives people a common ground, such as something to talk about and break the ice in a new situation. Some trends can be a lot of fun or raise awareness. However, some are just terrible. So bad in fact that your eyes roll as soon as you see the. Some are dangerous, and some are just plain stupid! With the start of the new year, here are a list of Trends that need to be left in 2017. There is a new year coming, and while that doesn’t change anything but the date on the calendar, we really need to move past these trends.

1. The Kardashians:

See the source image

I am very proud to say that I have never watched a single episode of anything to do with this horrible family. This might make it seem that I should give it a chance before I judge. I understand that point, but I have seen so much of these people covered in the news and in media that I don’t think I have to watch a show since they are always shoved in our faces. Why are these people famous? They are terrible, terrible people who have no talent. They don’t act, or sing, or dance, or do anything that is creative themselves. They have a team of people to be creative for them. They have a Mom who took advantage of her children, and a small thread of fame and exploited it all. They have been  everywhere for so long that people have grown up watching them. People now think this is entertainment, and what it means to be successful and famous. What a shame. I can’t wait for these people to fade into the background. This is a trend that never should have started in the first place, and it’s time to be over!  I feel dirty even giving them any sort of attention on my blog, but I feel very strongly about how much damage they have done to women, entertainment, and taste.

2. Blaming Named Generations:

See the source image

Everything wrong with the world is due to the, Baby Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y, but most of all Millennials. In fact, Millennials are the worst! They are lazy, don’t work, and are just plain stupid. The Millennials are a term for people who are born between certain years. This year range changes all of the time, but generally it’s somewhere between 1980’s to the 2000’s. Basically, any lazy stereotype that you can throw at this group has been used to describe them. The term has become derogatory, just as Baby Boomers and the Gen X and Y. None of them have been looked at in a positive light, and all have been blamed throughout history for being terrible.  In essence, these named generational terms have been used to worry the past, and mark the monumental fear of change. This trend is not a mark of a generation, but used as excuse to place people in a box, spread fear, and even anger around people in that generation. If you recall, Baby Boomers were accused of the same thing back in their day. It’s a cycle, and a trend that needs to stop.

3. Dangerous Postings:

See the source image

I may sound like an old person here, but I really don’t care. It doesn’t matter how old you are because anyone can be affected by someone’s dangerous posting. If you haven’t received the memo, it’s dangerous to text and drive. In fact, studies have shown that it is safer to drive drunk that it is to drive and text. Don’t drive drunk either!  It’s also dangerous to talking on a cell phone and drive, but it’s not illegal in all states as of this posting. So many accidents and deaths have been caused by a person who can’t ignore their phone and pay attention to the road. I have lost someone because of this, and have been involved in an accident because someone was texting. It’s not just texting, it’s uploading photos to  Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter and any other social media outlet.  YouTubers are also setting up a dash cam to record their blogs. This is a huge distraction and is a terrible trend that needs to end now before more people are killed. It can wait, because no post is worth your life or the life of another person.

4. Belief in the News:

See the source image

Since people have reported news, there has been truth stretching. It gets worse but it seems more and more people are believing and trusting everything that they read. News is a product just like anything else. If you don’t make it appealing, no one is going to pay attention. People running the news have their own agenda, and it’s usually do to corporation or government. It has become more apparent than ever that the news is just a paid opinion like an infomercial.  There is no biased news reporting, but there is some good out there. While it’s unconventional, many bloggers and YouTubers have taken up urban journalism. While it’s still biased, you are getting another view than the traditional news and you may see how much is being made up, and what is really going on that they don’t want you to know about.

5. Cheat Day:

This is one of the most annoying things I have seen all year. This is when a blogger or even mainstream media cheat of their diet and so called healthy lifestyle. They make it seem as though they work out and are healthy the rest of the week, but this one day of the week, they eat everything that they want no matter the calories. Most of the time, it’s not just enjoying a single snack, but binge eating all of the junk food that they can get a hold of. Then, they shrug it off and justify everything under their cheat day umbrella of protection.  It is enough to make your eyes roll seeing very skinny girls who get very crazy about their cheat day. Quite frankly, this promotes unhealthy binge eating instead of teaching people to be healthier and enjoy treats in moderation. It also very confusing to young girls. They are already impressionable, and seeing very skinny girls have an very unhealthy relationship with working out and food can make it so much worse for them. These girls need to see a healthy balance between food and exercise.  This mind set is not healthy for anyone and it’s a dangerous trend.

While, I’m sure these trends aren’t going anywhere, I hope at least people will take some of these bad and damaging things into considerations. While some are annoying, some are dangerous. I hope that 2018 will bring better .On a personal note, thank you all who follow this blog, or any blogger like myself. It’s a lot of fun and work, even if it doesn’t seem like it. There are hours and even days of research and writing that go into this process. I love it, and I hope that you enjoy the content that this page has brought you. In 2018, I will strive to do better to keep on a tighter posting schedule. I know life gets in the way more often that I want, but I’m going to do the best that I can. Thank you all for your support, comments, emails and suggestions! I am excited to see what new challenges this year will bring! The Jackson Five, or Six

Underdogs, I have a serious question for you about The Jackson 5. How many members were in the band? This is not a trick questions. Please do not take into consideration any people who were guests during performances, such as young Janet Jackson. Also don’t count any extra person playing instruments that aren’t part of the core band, such as a piano player or drummer. This question is for the members of the core band only. Where there 5 members, or were there six? My second question is for all of those Jackson fans out there, who was the youngest boy of the family? Janet was the youngest girl, and the youngest child of the Jackson clan. Most of us remember that Micheal was the youngest male of the Jackson family. Turns out, we were all wrong and there were 6 members of the Jackson family, and the youngest brother was named Randy!

This seems like it could either be a very faulty memory, or another strange Mandela Effect. There is a very detailed account from Scarabperformance on YouTube which inspired this blog. I will link his full video below.  I advise you to watch the whole thing. It took me awhile to get into the video, but I started seeing one strange thing after another. I applaud how much work and detail was put into the making of his posts. I want to say that I am, and always have been a huge music fan and find myself fairly well versed in acts from the past. My parents were older than the average parent, so I grew up on their musical tastes which were far different than most people my age. When kids were into Britney Spears, I was into the Beatles and Pink Floyd. I can honestly say that I always remember that Micheal Jackson was the youngest brother, and there were only 5 core members of the Jackson. I don’t remember a Randy Jackson at all.

See the source image

The line up that I recall is, Jackie (b.1951), Tito(b.1953), Jermaine (b.1954), Marion(b.1957), and Micheal Jackson(b.1958-D.2009). All of a sudden, there is a new brother named Randy(b.1961) who is 4 years younger than Micheal! The stranger things is that this boy seems to be digitally added into interviews and old photos. Take a look at the YouTube link to see all the interviews. No one in the family interacts directly with this new kid. It seems wrong.  The other thing is, the child doesn’t seem to age at a proper rate. This photo was taken in 1965, which would mean that the new brother, Randy, was 3 or 4  years old. According to the new history, Micheal was born in 1958, and Randy was born in 1961. Do any of these kids look like they are 4 years old?  I don’t remember meeting too many 4 year old kids that are as tall as these kids. Yes, it can happen, but do any of them seem 4?

See the source image

This photo was taken in 1973, and the interview with this photo said that young Randy was 8 years old. According to the family history, Randy Jackson was born in 1961, which would mean that this kid would be 12 years old here. Although he didn’t “officially” join the Jackson 5 until 1975, there are photos and interviews with Randy being part of the band prior to 1975. What? Is anyone else confused? I have talked to several people who have worked in music, who were D.J.’s in the 1970’s and 80’s, and no one remembers Randy, and everyone recalls Micheal being the youngest male Jackson. Randy was a dude on American Idol. There was a lot of drugs being done by these people in the industry, but I don’t think it was enough to forget an entire person in a very famous singing group. Something is not adding up!

In theory, Randy should be in photos and interviews at least 50% of the time. What is off about this is that there are many photos of the Jackson 5 after 1975, which is said to be the year that Randy joined. There is no Randy in these photos. By 1975, the other siblings guest stared on appearances with the Jackson 5, but we never saw Randy. Father Joe Jackson was famously a media whore. He was very abusive to his children and treated them like a machine. What doesn’t make any sense is how long Randy was hidden away from the public. He is hardly included in anything, even after he joined the Jackson 5, but we also don’t see any photos from childhood, or any home interviews that the full family gave. Where is this child the rest of the time?

See the source image
Jackson Children, minus Randy

Is it possible that Randy is real and has been there the whole time? Yes, because people are having an issue telling the brothers apart. They look very similar and unless it’s Micheal, people are not necessarily going to put these kids together as part of the same family. What is strange is the string of photos that don’t make any sense, like the succession of photos that make it seem like Randy doesn’t age, then he disappears altogether for years. There is also a theory that Randy joined the Jackson 5 just as one of the other brothers was getting ready to leave. However, the line up with 6 was around for at least 2 full years before one of the brother’s left making it the Jackson 5 again. At some point, the group was changed from Jackson 5 to The Jacksons, but this was years after everything in question here. I have also heard a theory that Randy is not a brother,  but a cousin who was brought in by Joe. That could be an explanation, but why has been added into the sibling history?

See the source image
The Jackson Children, minus Randy

There is also a theory called the YouTube effect. This means that with the invention of a platform like this, more footage than ever is being posted. This includes rare or forgotten footage. People who don’t recall the events now think this is a mistake and now believe that somehow the time lines have been altered. Or, it is a Mandela Effect and our reality is shifting. It could all just be a simple misunderstanding because of this new information. None of us have seen every single performance of the Jackson 5, let alone any of our favorite musical acts. We may have missed something, but is it logical to misplace an entire member of a very famous group? Any of this is possible, and this new information may not fit into what you recall because it wasn’t available to you at the moment.

What do you recall? Does any of this see strange to you at all? Do you remember Randy Jackson always being part of the family? Do you remember seeing him as a child and growing up next to his siblings until he joined the band as a full member in 1975? Is this just an example of people who have poor memory and people not really knowing the members of this very famous band. Or is it something different and an alteration in our time line? What you are your thoughts on the matter?

Movie Review for 2017

Hello Underdogs, and it’s that time of year where we look back on the year of all forms of entertainment and review what in the world did we just consume. For this list, I am giving you my thoughts on movies that I have seen this past year.  These are not movies that I rented, but went to see in a theater. I paid my own money so all of these thoughts and opinions are my own. I try very hard to not let the massive reviews sway me, but I am human and sometimes they stick with me. Some of these movie reviews have been covered before in my blog, and if they have, I will leave the full link. These are the good, the bad, and the middle ground. I hope you enjoyed the entertainment this year, and maybe you will go see one of these movies that you didn’t consider before. Or, you may stay away from one all together.

The Emoji Movie:

Full And the Underdog Wins Movie Review Here: http://www.andtheunderdogwins.com/emoji-movie-captures-society-today/

This movie has made it on the top spot for one of the worst movies of 2017. I don’t disagree with that statement! In fact, it was one of the most offensive movies that I have ever seen. I don’t care that it is one big product placement film, which is one of the biggest arguments that many people have about the Emoji Movie. The reason that doesn’t bother me is because most films are one large commercial. Think back to many of our childhood favorites and you will recall things like food, drinks, and toys associated with that movie. This movie doesn’t try to hide their product placements at all, but makes them part of the story. My issues with this movie were the horrible lesson of fitting oneself into a box. It is not okay to be different, and it’s okay to abandon your goals even after working very hard to get where you want to be in life. This movie had a few laughs, but overall, it reflects the sad state of our world today, and how we just have to label people and things so they will fit into the world. This movie, for me, is one of the very worst not only of 2017, but ever.

Wonder Woman:

Wonder Woman was by far the best super hero movie that I saw all year. In fact it is one of the best movies for superheros of all time! I can’t say enough good things about Wonder Woman. The plot was great, the holes were small, and the cast was mighty. I have been waiting for this movie for years, and I can say for once that it by far exceeded my expectations. After seeing her cameo in the awful Batman Vs. Superman, I wasn’t really expecting much from this movie, and I said as much. I couldn’t be happier to be wrong about a movie before! All little girls need to see this movie. It is about time that kids have a chance to grow up with bad ass females in strong roles. I am so happy to have been able to see this movie!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi:

For the full movie review, click here: http://www.andtheunderdogwins.com/star-wars-just-watch/

This is the most conflicted that I have ever been about a Star Wars movie. I love the Star Wars franchise, and this movie split people down the middle for a very good reason. While I have been struggling for the last few weeks about why I feel the way that I do, I have come to one conclusion. The movie needed to be edited better. For all of it’s faults from a story prospective, it can be forgiven if the movie was edited down. There is at least a full half hour that could be cut out of this movie and have no impact on the story whatsoever. This movie will be debated for years, and I am hopeful that the next movie will be the payoff for all of this confusion. This movie has very good and very bad moments. I think people should see it and decide for themselves, but for me, this is a very middle of the row movie.

The Justice League:

For the full movie review, click here: http://www.andtheunderdogwins.com/justice-league-review/

What a year for superhero movies! Some were amazing, and some were okay. The Justice League was okay. I had fun watching this movie, but it there was a lot of disconnect. This is another movie that had a lot of stuff going on, but no real plot. While I wish they would have focused on a darker Superman story line, there was a lot of good set up in this movie for future projects. I really like the Flash, and I’m very excited about seeing Aquaman in his own movie. What made me sad was how they dealt with Wonder Woman in this movie, and how the villain of the story was kind of lame. I am hopeful that the next movie will have a better story, and they will fix the CGI issues. There is a lot of room for growth and I think it is possible!

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword:

See the source image

While many people hated this movie, I actually loved it. This is a different take on the legend of King Arthur. The story is great, and exciting. There is a lot of humor, and a lot of great set up for a series of films that will sadly never happen. Arthur grows up in a brothel and finds that he is the true king and needs to defeat his evil Uncle. The acting is great, the action is great. Jude Law does an amazing job at being very evil. I am very sad that this movie didn’t do better and there is no reason that I can see that people hated it so much. I think they were told to hate it or something. I bought this movie as soon as it came out and have watched it several more times, and have yet to be disappointed. I think this was an excellent movie and people should really give it a try instead of listening to all those who said it was terrible.

Thor Ragnarok:

See the source image

This movie was such a surprise, and probably my favorite of the entire year. This movie was pure joy from start to finish! There is a lot of great cameos, and thank God for Jeff Goldblum. I hope he is in more movies because it was a joy to see him on the screen. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun in this whole movie. I loved that the majority of the movie took place on a different planet, and loosely was based on Planet Hulk series. For the first time, we really got to see Thor be funny and almost even make fun of himself. The team up of Thor and Bruce Banner/Hulk was brilliant! This will be another Marvel film that I buy as soon as it comes out. I feel as though this is the light  movie before we get Infinity Wars. This was truly one of the best movies of the all of 2017!

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle:

See the source image

I will have a full review of this movie coming up. Until then, I think this movie is worth seeing. However, it may be too scary for some younger viewers. I saw it with an 8, 9, and 11 year old. I think the 8 year old may have been a bit too little to see this movie because she was afraid of some of the scenes, and covered her eyes several times. This movie was a lot of fun, and I actually liked it better than the original. This was another fun movie that had some great action. The plot was fairly simple, but it was very clear which path they were going down, which was nice compared to some of the bigger movies this year. I loved the Rock in this movie, and there were a lot of laughs. I would recommend this movie!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2:

See the source image

What an excellent year for Marvel! The surprise movie a few years ago was the original film. Now, this is a fun series and I am very happy that we are on the path with these crazy space legends! First, baby Groot is adorable, and I am kind of sad he is growing up in teenage Groot. Star Lord meets his Dad in this movie who is named Ego. Ego is a planet. While as strange as this may see, it actually is a pretty good story line. While there are a lot of laughs, what is not expected is the deep emotions that made me tear up. I know that there is a question if this group will continue to be Guardians of the Galaxy past their next movie, but I sure hope they stay on for awhile, because this is a great team, with a fun and exciting story! One of the best films of the year!

Beauty and the Beast:

Image result for beauty and the beast movie

This movie is one of the newest in the line of live action Disney films. This follows the original story fairly closely so there isn’t a lot of surprises. It was nice to see this on screen. It was almost like a combination of a movie, and seeing a Broadway play. I loved the outfits and it was  nice to watch this. While it didn’t blow me out of the water, it is a nice movie. However, this is one that I would tell people to wait and rent instead of seeing in the theater. You already know the story, so there isn’t a lot of wiggle room for anything new or different besides being live action.

Spider Man: Homecoming:

For the full movie review, check out the link here: http://www.andtheunderdogwins.com/fan-friday-spiderman-homecoming/

I am the first to admit that I wasn’t on board with this movie. This is yet another remake of the Spiderman franchise and I was kind of annoyed that they were starting all over again. Now, I am happy that I was wrong about this and I’m excited about this remake. Tom Holland is a breath of fresh air and brings new life into a character that has been struggling for the last several years. I was happy that they didn’t start with Uncle Ben passing away, and picked up after Civil War left off. On a personal note, it was very awesome to see Jon Favria back on the screen in the Iron Man world. He was one of the people responsible for the might Marvel reboot, and he is a welcome old friend. Go see this movie if you haven’t already!

The Dark Tower:

See the source image

This movie is an adaption of Steven King’s novel. When I mean novel, I mean a series of 8 books and an entire scope of stories. While many people didn’t like this movie, I liked it for what it was. There is no way in the world that a single film could cover the ground of this book. However, this movie was meant to set up the HBO series that is coming in the next few years. This is looking to be the replacement of Game of Thrones. I loved the acting, and the story was fine, but it was thinned out too much for many people’s liking. I thought it was okay, and I enjoyed it for what it was. I didn’t go in with a lot of expectations because I knew it could only cover so much ground and they had to pick and choose what to cover. I thought they did a fairly good job. This movie was in the middle of the road, but by no means was it a bad movie.

There was my list of movies that I saw in a theater this year, and my reviews. I think my favorite movie of this year was Thor, and the one I didn’t like at all was the Emoji Movie. Many of these movies were right in the middle of the road, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t worth watching. I hope that you enjoyed these reviews. Please leave your comments on the movies that you saw this year that you liked, and ones that you didn’t!

Thank you, Peter Capaldi

This is the official Underdog Review for “Twice Upon a Christmas,” which is Peter Capaldi’s last day as The Doctor. It is also Steven Moffat’s last show, but I will cover his legacy in another post. He deserves his own blog devoted to his genius.  This post will contain spoliers, so if you haven’t seen this show yet, stop reading this post.  I believe that no one was more prepared for this role than him. I meet him briefly last year, and he will forever be in my heart, and will always be The Doctor. It is going to be sad for him to leave, but I know we will see him as a Time Lord again.

See the source image

“Twice Upon A Christmas” marked a special time of saying goodbye to one Time Lord, and saying hello to a new one. We see David Bradly take up his role as playing the First Doctor, and somehow these two are brought together, while we find out that both of them are refusing to regenerate. A solider gets sucked up into the timeline and we find that mysterious glass figure is asking to replace the solider and take him back to the moment of his death, in exchange for Bill. The two Doctors go on an adventure to try to find out what these glass things are, fearing they are evil. It is actually not a bad thing at all, but a way to preserve memories, and have the past speak.

While all of this is happening, The Doctor, Peter Capaldi, is refusing to regenerate. Why? Because he is tired. He is also filled with glass images of the people he loved from the past. All of those he traveled with and loved are ghosts. It is a curse of a long life. The very cool thing about this episode is the very real pain of life and loss, but the need to keep going for the greater good. They return the solider to his moment of death in exchange for Bill. This is where he asks The Doctor a favor. He asked him to look after his family, the Stuarts.  Quite frankly, I started crying at this reveal, and didn’t stop after that moment. There isn’t a big baddie in this finally, it’s a tug at the heart strings.

I also love that they included a wonderful legend of the day everyone called true during World War 1. I have no idea if this is a true story at all, but I have heard it. I have heard that on one Christmas day, both sides stopped fighting and sang carols and celebrated together. Again, I’m not sure if it is real, but what a real delight bringing this moment to life even for a moment. It was very much a Steven Moffat moment. “For just this once, everyone lives.” We also get a few cameos from Bill, Nardol, and Clara who are there to say goodbye and also, to tell The Doctor no matter what he chooses to do, they support him. The Doctor was granted his memories of Clara again, so he was able to recall who she was, and why she was special to him. This was a very bitter sweet moment.

See the source image

The Doctor goes to his Tardis alone, which at first was what I was worried about. I kept saying to myself, please don’t let him do this alone. Don’t let him go through this alone. When 10 changed to 11, he was alone and it was heartbreaking. He was alone, however, and seeing how they did this scene made perfect sense. It was just a boy and his box, just like it should be at the end of the day. No one would be able to tell The Doctor what he should do more than the Tardis could.  She reminded him that the universe needs him. He then regenerated.

Peter Capaldi’s goodbye speech was by far the best one that I have heard. He reminded us to never be cruel, or cowardly, and to always be kind. Although it seemed like this was a death, it was just a change. The change is hard, and hope can be scary, but there is always adventure waiting out there, and love is so very important. When he spoke about children hearing his name, nothing touched me more. As we all know, Peter Capaldi was a fan of the show since he was a small child. As a kid, he wrote fan letters, and started a fan club. That love got him all through his life and finally to a lovely guest spot during David Tennant’s run. He was cast as the 12th Doctor in 2013 and made his first appearance in the 50th Anniversary.  Literally no one has been more prepared to handle this job. The child heard the Doctor’s name, and became one of the best versions we have been lucky enough to see. This show is all about hope and magic, and Peter Capaldi reminded us how magical The Doctor is, and always will be.

See the source image

I then went from crying hard to laughing hysterically when I saw Jodie on screen. It was so perfect. It was years of waiting for a moment like this to happen and it was here. She is real, and I was so joyous about this moment I was laughing at the top of my lungs. I’m sure I seemed like a mad woman, but this was perfect, just perfect. I’m so sad to see Peter go, but I’m so happy to see what Jodie will bring. This is groundbreaking at it’s best.

This was a lovely story and it was nice to not have a big baddie for once. It was so wonderful to see David Bradley do the First Doctor again. All of the Easter Eggs were wonderful as well. For example, we got to hear about how Polly cleaned the Tardis. He is brilliant as The Doctor, and it’s so nice to see him on screen with Peter saying goodbye. I am sure this is not the last that we have seen of Peter Capaldi in Doctor Who, but for now his time is come to a close. He will now, and forever be the Doctor, and I don’t think anyone is more deserving of this title than him.

On a personal note, I am amazed at Peter Capaldi’s love and devotion to his fans. There are so many stories as to the many wonderful things he did for children and fans as The Doctor. That will never end. That is what playing this role is all about. As a child, he was given hope  through this character. It came full circle as Peter Capaldi played The Doctor, and gave a whole new generation of people the same hope he once had. There really is magic in the world. The world may not be a fairy tale, but that is when The Doctor comes in at. Boy, did Peter Capaldi bring a lot of magic to so many. Thank you, Peter Capaldi, and you will be greatly missed.

Leave your found Peter Capaldi moments below.

Star Wars: What did I just watch?

Hello Underdogs, this is the official And the Underdog Wins review for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” If you have not seen this movie, want to see this movie without anything being spoiled, don’t read past this paragraph! This will be detailed movie review that includes plot points and opinions. There will be some affiliate links as well for Star Wars. For more information, visit the shameless self promotion page on my site. Last warning for everyone, so if you don’t want to read spoilers, check back here after you have seen the movie.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was this mess. This movie is the follow up the wildly popular and well received movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It picks up right where the last movie left off, and it kind of all goes down hill from there. I knew that the prequels were not going to be as good as they could be, so I was hoping these 3 newer movies would be a formal apology for those movies. It started off pretty well with The Force Awakens, but The Last Jedi left me disappointed, and quite frankly, a bit bored. I am one of the people that grew up on the Star Wars franchise. I wasn’t even born the first movies, but I literally grew up watching and playing Star Wars. The trailer was amazing and I was convinced that this would be the top Star Wars movie of all time. How wrong was I?

There was two separate movies going on in this film. If they would have left out one part, and concentrated on the other, maybe this would have been a better movie. The first part is Rey and Luke, and the struggles of the Force, the Jedi, and training. The second part is a completely pointless side adventure to get a code breaker. This is what I am going to concentrate on first. The rebels are in trouble because the New Order can now track and follow them in light speed. This means that they can follow them anywhere and destroy them on a whim. Never mind that the New Order is technologically advance. They decide to toy with the rebels and basically wait until they run out of gas and die instead of just destroying them in moments. I refuse to believe that the New Order didn’t have this power to end this quickly, and were just danging the rebels like a worm on a hook for entertainment purposes.

While this is going on, almost the entire fleet is destroyed and General Leia is in a coma. This means that the Vice Admiral takes over and refuses to tell anyone the plan even after Poe asks many times. The reason behind this?  So those in charge not needing to  tell some fly boy the plan so they don’t go off and do something stupid. Instead, they stay silent and characters go off and do something stupid anyway.  Finn, new character Rose, and Poe to come up with a very strange plan to go to a planet and get a code breaker to get through a door to destroy the New Order’s ability to follow them in light speed. Never mind that we have seen droids do this very thing over and over again in other movies. This whole thing could have been avoided if the Admiral told everyone the plan, and would have avoided a standoff, and a whole bunch of people getting in needless danger. I have no clue how Finn and Rose didn’t understand that the code breaker would betray them. Everyone knew that was going to happen. There was no point to this at all. All this did was take away from the main story, and boy did that main story need help.

Rey and Luke was a very hard thing to watch as well. At first, watching Luke walk around the island with Rey following him made me smile. I looked at my friend and we both agreed that Luke was already training Rey. Turns out, he wasn’t, he was just being moody. It got so annoying how many times Luke walked away from Rey and seemingly refused to help her. This lead to Rey being open to Kylo and had a strong connection with him. Even though Snoke said he set this whole thing up, you couldn’t fake their connection. It could have been different if Luke would have listened and helped Rey instead of being strange and brooding. Kylo gets it from somewhere.

Rey’s big scene in the pit was pointless. It was set up to be something cool, but there was no pay off at all. It could have been so cool, but instead, it was empty. Plus, if this is true, and not just a thought that Kylo picked out of Rey’s head, her parents are no one. There is no connection with Rey and anyone. I wouldn’t have an issue with this at all if they didn’t spend the entire first movie setting up the mystery of Rey, her family, and where she comes from. This movie did a great job of making everyone in Force Awakens pointless.

We also find out that not only is Luke brooding, but he almost killed his own nephew in a moment of weakness. He read what could have been Ben’s future and saw Snoke taking hold. As Rey said, at that moment, he hadn’t chosen his path and anything could have happened. Luke had almost started to kill Ben, but he woke up and this started him down his very dark path to become Kylo Ren. A scared child had no hope, just like Rey. No wonder these two characters are drawn to one another. I loved the scene with Rey and Kylo fighting Snoke’s guards. It’s very well shot, and visually stunning. However, it was very disappointing to see the all powerful Snoke just get cut in half and that was it.  Kylo takes his place and tries to get Rey to come with him and destroy everything. This means to end this whole past of the Jedi and the New Order and start over. Rey rejects him and this starts the end fight.

The few rebels that are left after the pointless side story, landed on an abandoned rebel  planet. They are in a lot of trouble because they are in a cave with only one way in or out. They have a ram that could break down their door and kill all the rebels. The new New Order headed by Klyo Ren is ready to kill. Instead of letting Finn save the day by flying into the ram, Rose hits him and stops him because she didn’t want him to die. As bad as it got, Luke showed up after a meeting with Yoda, to fight. This leads to a huge stand off between Luke and Kylo, and Luke wins. Why, because we find out he never left the island at all, but projected himself across the universe by using the force. That was pretty cool, but when Luke dies after this, it seems like a huge letdown for not only us, but for the legacy of this character.

By the end of this movie, there are only a handful of rebels left. The universe refused to answer the call for help, so even though it seems like things are hopeless there is still a glimmer of hope in the slave children on the casino planet that they were at to get the code breaker. I guess that was a very thin thread connecting these stories together, but it really was a fine thread. Luke is dead, the rebels are at an all time low, Kylo is the new leader, and Rey is still as lost as she was before.

This whole review seems very negative and it is sad for me to do this. I want to make it clear that even though I love Star Wars. This movie was no where near as good as The Force Awakens, nor did it follow the Star Wars formula. Now, and forever, this saga is about the Skywalker family. George Lucas has said this time and time again. If you move away from the Skywalker family, then you miss something huge. This movie was setting up the Jedi as being pointless, because the force is in everyone. Fine, but how are people going to be trained if they need to be? There is no one left to help. The rebels are almost died out, but it still doesn’t seem as dire as Empire Strikes Back. There were several moments that I love about this film. First, Adam Driver does an amazing job as Kylo Ren. While Rose wasn’t given a great story line, she is a great character. I loved seeing Yoda and I’m not going to lie, I cried a bit. It was heartbreaking to see General Leia’s story line because we know in real life, she is gone. I wish we would have seen more Poe and Finn together, but the few moments we got of them was great. There is a lot of hope in this film, it just misses the mark on several points.

A Conversation With the Other Side

Hello Underdogs, and I hope that you are having a good day. I wanted to explore in depth the experience I started telling you all about in Supernatural Sunday. If you have missed that post, check it out here: http://www.andtheunderdogwins.com/psychicandreadings/ I am going to tell you about my recent reading with Sue, a friend of mine who has some pretty amazing abilities. I like to call this a conversation with the other side. I want to advise my readers that everyone has their own personal belief system. It may consider someone who is psychic evil, or gifted. I say everyone is entitled to their thoughts on this subject. If you disagree, then please pass on reading this blog post. Otherwise, I hope that you are entertained and find this as fascinating as I did.

Sue meet with us last weekend at my friend’s birthday celebration. My friend has always wanted to do a reading, and it just has never worked out. Either the wait was too long, or the person had just closed up shop. My friend had an idea to ask Sue to come and do a group reading. Sue has done group readings like this before such as for bridal showers, and other type of parties. We decided on a certain number of people for the best experience. We had 5 people who got a reading, with several others who listened and were entertained. Each reading was at least 15 minutes long.

Sue started by giving us a bit of her background. She has been reading her entire life, and had friends that she couldn’t understand why not everyone could see. Sue came from a line of people who were considered some form of psychic. Her own children share in variations of her gift. Sue used cards to assist on her reading, as well as communicate with the spirits to have a conversation. I am not 100% sure what kind of cards they were and I honestly forgot to ask. I have a few decks of tarot cards myself, but none of mine looked these. Sue had us shuffle the cards as long as we felt was appropriate, and then started with the reading process.

Like I said before, there are several things to keep in mind when you are part of a reading process. First, not everyone is right all of the time. Also, even though you get some news, or information that doesn’t make sense to you right away it doesn’t mean that it is wrong. You may have to do some leg work to find out what these messages could mean. For example, there is a conversation going about a person who smoked super heavy and died of lung cancer. You don’t know anyone who matches that information. However, when you talk to your Mom later on, they know exactly what you are talking about. Second, you may go into this with the hope that you will hear certain news, or from a certain person. Ghosts and spirits are not something that work on demand. You might get a successful conversation, and you may not. However, you will most likely hear exactly what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. Be open, even if things don’t make sense at the moment.

Sue read the cards as well as listened to what spirits were telling her. None of us started with a question out loud. Instead, she just started the reading. To me, that was really nice since I wasn’t focused on a single question and more open to what may be said. Sue touched on things that happened in the past, things that may happen in the future, and had some messages from people who have passed. There were some very emotional moments, so funny, and yes, there was some confusing moments. Sue was not able to address those things since the information was coming through her. She also doesn’t retain the information that she gives us during the conversation, so she encourages recordings or taking notes.

My reading was very interesting, but the part that stuck out most in my mind was a short conversation with my Dad. Most of it is very personal, but I don’t mind sharing that it was like the essence of who my Dad was, talked a bit with me that night. It was short, but very powerful and gave me some peace with some issues that I have been worrying about. It was nice to get some of this information that made me sleep a bit better at night. I don’t want anything to think it was something very general or information known previously. First, I haven’t known Sue super long and she wouldn’t know any of the details that she gave me. One thing was so spot on, it was like I heard his voice in my head. This wasn’t something that you could get through social media, or anything like that, it was extremely personal.

Not everyone had the same experience that I did during the reading. Some got information that was confusing, and some got information that they didn’t understand. I think a conversation with the other side needs to be open on for both parties, for those getting the reading, and those who are giving the information. Others had very intense readings that left them in tears. It was all over the place, but that is not a bad thing. That means that things are realistic, because just like in real life, things don’t always go smoothly and the way you would like them to go.

All in all, it was fun, entertaining, and a bit of a mystery to be solved. I highly enjoyed myself and would recommend trying out a reading on your own sometime. Doing one for a party can be nice if you are nervous. If you want more information, comment below!

Sunny Came Home

Hello Underdogs, and I hope you are having a good Monday! It has been a bit of a mystery as to why I have been absent, so I thought I would go ahead and make this post a Mystery Monday! First, I have been incredibly busy as a caregiver. Then, on December 9th Sunny came into my life. Who is Sunny? She is my new puppy! I didn’t get up that day thinking that I would get a new dog, yet here she is and she is home to stay! I have been thinking about getting a new puppy for the past several months. My dog Indy, who is a black lab, is 11 years old. He is truly my baby and my heart. However, I know he is getting up there in puppy years and I wanted to give him a thunder and cuddle buddy. My roommate has a chihuahua, named Rose who is awesome, but not a cuddly dog to Indy at all. Indy needs a cuddle buddy and I’m hopeful Sunny will help him during a storm since he gets so scared. Most of all, I love dogs so much and I hope to give little Sunny a good life and a good home!

I looked at several rescues for the past month, but none of them leaped out to me. The ones I really like had a huge price tag! For example, a lab that I really liked cost $700.00 to adopt! This was insane and I couldn’t find any reason why that price was so high! The other problem that I ran into was that I am a renter and I have certain breed restrictions to bring home. All the dogs that I saw fell into those categories. I was sad because I wanted to help all of these dogs. They were in no kill shelters so they were in good hands until they find their forever homes. I officially gave up and said if there was supposed to be a new dog for me, it would come. I wouldn’t go overboard doing research, making phone calls, and visiting shelters. It was getting heart breaking.

Then, on Sunday, I got a call from a friend who told me to come quickly because there were several puppies that needed to be rescued. I couldn’t make it, so she went on my behalf and picked out the sweetest, most cuddly girl that they had. The adoption took place, and Sunny and her sister were rescued. Her sister went to my friend and Sunny came home with me. I fell in love instantly! In fact, the reason this puppy is called Sunny is because the first thought that went through my mind when seeing her is how how she was a ray of Sunshine.  She is a beagle/terrier mix and was 7 weeks old. This means that Sunny was born right around Indy’s birthday! They are soul mates, sort of!

The puppies full name is Sunshine “Sunny” Amelia Pond Tebrinke. Yes, I had to put the Doctor Who reference in there but it fits so perfectly. Sunny is very active, cuddly, and has a heart on her nose. She loves to play, and is still walking around like a drunk puppy. Indy is still not super happy with her being in the house, but if he is sleeping, he doesn’t mind that Sunny climbs all over him and sleeps on his back. Rose is pretty indifferent when it comes to Sunny. She wants to be the number one girl in the house. Sunny has other plans.

I’m a bit nervous on how this is going to work out with the three of them. However, I think in time they will all be thick as thieves. There are moments when they seem okay, but Indy still only likes Sunny when she is sleeping! It is not unusual for a male dog to not want anything to do with a puppy. I think as she grows, he will fall in love with her and she will be the cuddle buddy that Indy needs. She is a lot of work right now, but that is okay! A few things take a back seat while I am a caregiver and a new puppy mom. I wouldn’t have it any other way! Welcome home Sunny!

I love dogs! Would you like to see a dog day during the week, or another entire blog about dogs? Let me know in the comments.

Psychic and Readings

Hello Underdogs, and I am so very sorry that I was absent last week. Today’s topic is about psychic and spirits, which will interrupt the last few Sunday series that I have been doing recently.  I have had a lot of strange and odd things happen to me that I am calling Lisa’s big week, just like Nick Fury’s Big week. Anywho, all silliness aside, thank you for those who asked about my positing. Sometimes, it is hard to keep up when you are working very hard as a caregiver and then have to keep going with every day life. I will be blogging about what I can, and I hope you enjoy what I am going to share with you!

I took part in a psychic reading last week. This is not the first one that I have gone to, but it is the first one that was pretty in depth and longer than a few minutes. Back in college, I went to see a psychic at my school. She was a very famous psychic and it was pretty impersonal because there was a long line of people waiting for their turn. Many people think a lot of bad and negative things about psychics, while others find entertainment, hope, and even help. While there is a story to these readings, I want to talk about what a psychic is, and what they may be capable of doing for a reading.

First, let’s examine exactly what is psychic is, and what they do. Psychics are people who gain knowledge and information through unconventional means. That means it does not come to them through the typical 5 senses that are Touch, Taste, Seeing, Hearing, and Smelling. This is what  people like to call the sixth sense, which is beyond the 5 senses and can be considered otherworldly. Traditionally, people who are seen on TV see and hear spirits that have passed on. This could be a ghost or something else. For example, the shows “Medium,” and “Ghost Whisperer” are these types of psychics. Seeing and hearing ghosts are just as real to them as watching TV, or talking to a person who works with them in their office. Others can only hear, smell, or just have a feeling that someone is there and watching them. Think back in your life, because I am sure that you have at least one moment that you knew something without any reason why. For example, you know that you should take a different route to work even though you always go the same way, and you find you nearly missed a major accident. This could be considered a psychic moment.

Of course, as long as there has been people who can read the future, and talk with spirits, there have been people who are willing to burn them. There is a lot of fear, and anger associated with psychics. There are several religions that are against them, and call them devils. While others are more open and embrace the people who have gifts. There is a world of hurt, and so much innocent blood that has been spilled due to people’s belief that the psychics are wrong and are demonic. This history is too long, and too detailed to give it any justice is a simple blog post, but the witch hunt that happened in the past still is felt by us in the present. It changed everything including many people being more open and willing to be educated on other things that they may not understand.

I know that many people are going to say that psychics are fake, and they are out to only make money. Not every single person is who they claim to be, and there are people who are willing to take advantage of people and their money. However, that is not just limited to psychics, you can find people like that in any walk of life, so you need to proceed with reasonable precaution.  I think that some people are so closed off, and so afraid of someone who claims to be physic that they are going to find as much fault as possible and deem them not real, and gold diggers. Some are, but some are not. However, it isn’t right to dismiss a whole group of people based off of your own fear.

If you decide to go for a reading, here are a few tips to keep in mind. Do your research about that person. Do they have a website, or Facebook page? Do your friends know them, and have they come recommended? If not, then ask to meet them first for a few moments before you schedule a meeting. If it doesn’t feel right, then don’t move forward. If you want to go ahead and try it, keep these things in mind. Find out the price up front, if there is a price. Not everyone charges for a reading. You decide if it is too much, or worth it to you. Ask what you are getting for this reading for sure, and decide if this is what you what to do. If a person ever claims that they are 100% accurate, then walk out the door, because no one is always right. We are all human, and no is right all of the time. This is a big warning sing. Also, if they are unwilling to discuss their process and give examples of their work, then leave. They should feel comfortable talking about what they do if they are offering to do a reading.

One of the other things to keep in mind is that it isn’t information on demand. You might go into this wanting to know where Grandma’s ring is located, but not even hear a thing about your Grandma at all. You will hear what you need to hear, but it may not be what you want to hear. That being said, if a psychic is worth their salt, they will tell you the truth. That means if you ask if you should leave your troubled relationship and they tell you yes, then don’t get mad at the messenger. They won’t sugar coat things, and they relay information to you. That means if are told that you are in a bad and unsafe situation,, you will be told that it is not good for you to continue in this relationship. It’s a lot to take in, but you need to be open if you decide to try out a reading.

In the end, you may hear something that is going to resignation with you, you may not. Go into it with a healthy attitude, and maybe even a little fun. It can be very entertaining, so why not try this out if you are curious. You won’t be out much, and you might learn something. It can be very fun to do something like this on  your own, or even with a party. If you aren’t comfortable, and it’s not part of your belief system, then simply walk away, but don’t try to condemn these people just because they don’t fit into your belief system.

I’m going to leave you with a bit of a reading recommendation. There is a book I read years ago called, “All Women are Psychic.” This book is a collection of stories about women and their experiences. It really opened my mind and made me aware of things I didn’t understand, and connect me to things that I was starting to explore. It’s a great book that you can get in paperback or on Kindle. I hope you have a good day, and I will be giving you more details about my reading coming up on Try it Tuesday!

December 7

Opps….

Hello Underdogs, and I hope that you are having a great day. I want to say that I am sorry that I have been so absent this week. There has been a lot of challenges in the past week that have left me very tired, and very, very busy. As I have said several times before, I am a caregiver first. This has taken a lot of my time in the last two weeks which has left me both emotionally and psychically drained. I’m not complaining, I’m just stating fact. I don’t mind taking care of people, and that is my main purpose in life. I love blogging, but being a caregiver comes first.

I’ve found it very hard to find a balance recently, even with the power to schedule things, the daily struggle is nothing is the same. I may know what appointments are when, and how long they can take, but there is that wrench that is always thrown. It may be good, it may be bad, but it is always there. I am doing my best to catch my breath during this very busy time, so please bear with me while I work my tail off and try to get everything done. I love you guys and I thank you for all of your love and support doing this blog, and being there for me when I have to take a step back for a few days.

I have a lot of good stuff coming up that I am super excited to share with all of you! While the next 25 days will be full of treatments for my patient, I will try to get at least one post done a week. I love doing this and sharing my life with you all, and it means the world that a few of you take time out of your day to visit this site, and read my posts. I put a lot of work into this, even though it seems like I don’t. This is all a labor of love made with love, but not with perfection!

Stay tuned, Underdogs, because the best is yet to come!
